Alysa of the Fields was Originally published in paperback and hardcover in 2006. I had often thought about turning the story into an audio book but did not do so until I applied for and received a 2009 Artist Crossroads Grant through The Arts Council of the Southern Finger Lakes and NYSCA.

There were many components to this project, including (but not limited to!):

• Writing the novel in the first place!

• Applying for the grant - a very tedious but worthwhile process

• Converting the novel into an unabridged audio script

• Researching and purchasing sound recording equipment and software

• Setting up a sound studio in her home

• Creating publicity for and holding the auditions

• Final casting of the character voices

• Scheduling the actors for recordings mainly over a three-month period

• Holding group recording sessions for background reactions and songs

• Meeting with Warren Jeffrey Motter about the needs for his music

• Editing the voice clips

• Recording the narrative and editing it with the sound clips

• Creating sound effects and modifying others from CDs and online sources

• Adding the sound effects and music

• Planning and conducting the performance required by the grant

• Lots of listening and cleaning up of the sound tracks

• Contacting people for reviews and sending them sets of CDs

• Creating the CD packaging (expandable DVD type that will hold the set of 8 CDs)

• Running a Kickstarter fundraiser to help get the project produced

• Preparing the final files for replication

• Holding the release and all the publicity that goes with it - coming soon!
